To observe the gradual development of a flower is a nice project to understand how things become what they are. Flowers are especially intriguing. They start from a tiny bud. The bud increases in size and then opens up. As the petals unfold, they grow, change their shape, and finally turn into a beautiful flower. by Atlant Bieri

Vietnam in the morning

I made this entry in the town of Buon Ma Thuot in South Vietnam. It was a typical morning with steaming bread and fragrant wafts of coffee: “Rain coats tarmac, pavement, car bodies and ice boxes with highlights. The postal worker waits at 07.15 in front of the gates of the locked post office, which opens at 07.00. The café tables and chairs are built for dwarves. In unfavourable places, rainwater collects on them. Taxis, scooters, cars and buses honk their horns. The taxis also honk when it is obvious that there is no way forward. Out of desperation, defiance, anger or simply annoyance? The leaves sail – no, fall – from the Bodhi tree. Gully grille. Puddles in the sunken square of cobblestones. Algae growth on fenced house walls. Iced coffee in plastic cups. Well-dressed ladies taking selfies; or having them taken. The swallows fly even when it rains.”
